YellingAtMe

Why This Site Exists

YellingAtMe is a quiet, private place to calm down, understand what happened, and find the right words after a difficult conversation. Being yelled at — by a partner, a spouse, anyone close — leaves people shaken, and most of them reach for their phone before they reach for anything else. We want what they find there to actually help.

Why I started this

I’m an ordinary person — not a therapist, not a researcher. Sometimes the person closest to me yells, and for a long time I didn’t understand why. It troubled me, and some days it made me angry in ways I didn’t know how to handle. When I went looking for help, most of what I found was either too clinical to feel human or too dramatic to feel honest — so I built the site I wished I’d found that night. I’m not the only one this happens to, and I’m still learning too. If something here helps you land a little softer, that’s the whole point.

What we are — and what we’re not

We publish plain-language guides about handling verbal conflict in close relationships, and we built a free one-minute breathing tool for the moments right after. Everything here is free, anonymous, and works without an account.

We are not therapists, and this site is not counseling or crisis support. If yelling in your life comes with fear, control, or threats, please talk to trained people — we keep a verified list of hotlines on our Safety Resources page. For ongoing relationship distress, a licensed therapist or counselor is the right next step.

How we create content

Every guide follows a written set of rules: empathy without melodrama, information without diagnosis, and no taking sides by gender. Sources are linked so you can check them, and screenshots carry the date they were taken. The full rules are public — read our Editorial Policy.

About the name

Yes, the domain comes from the “yelling at me” Google meme — the one where millions of people compared search results for “my husband is yelling at me” and “my wife is yelling at me”. But behind the joke is a real pattern: every day, real people type those exact words into a search bar because someone actually yelled at them. This site exists for those people. The meme brought the name; they’re the reason we kept building.
